Robert Lee The meeting of the Cable TV Advisory Commission was convened at 7:15

· Crandall asked for reaction to recent cable TV rate increase. Members
reported mild objection. Lyman explained thsX rate increases had be~
implemented annually in recent years. She said FCC and Mass. Commis-
sion permit such increases:based on actual costs o.f. operations. The increas~-
includes added costs for new services, inflation,program costs,g1 for
network impwvements and new programming. The increase was detaileAt
in a bill flyer.
· In respon~ to a query, it was reported that a 5 - 10 percent rate discount
for seniors was in place from about 1990-94 or until FCC regulation
precedence.
· O'Connor asked if MediaOne was making ~ny changes to its equipment
on so-called double poles that might constitute a pedestrian and/or u'affic
hazard, The answer was in the negative, ~' -'
· MediaOne was congratulated on the success of its recent Media tTair,
Lyman reported that installation of MediaOne Express (high speed
internet access) in Beverly schools is under way. The Centerville School
already has been fully wired and is up and running, Other schools wffi
hooked up as they become ready and LAN's are in place, MediaOne plato;
a series of educational forums for those involved in the technology perhap:;
starting, within two months.
· MediaOne will conduct another series of workshops/classes on television
production for Beverly citizens starting in January.
· The commission will meet next on March 3, 1998.
