MINUTES OF MEETING

COMMISSION STATEMENT
We promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of community life and closely work with the
Massachusetts Office on Disabilities (MOD) on our role in the community.

1. Introductions of Commission members and guests
2. Old Business
1) State of the beach access plan
a. Wheelchairs and ADA beach access mats. How can the Commission support Parks and
Rec. The members suggested growing the board's membership, increasing the number of
volunteers and awareness of accessibility needs and resources city wide.
3. New Business
• Changing Meeting Times: Driving to access meetings at 7 pm is too dark for winter meetings. A
proposal is put forward to change meeting time from 6pm to 12 pm. All voted in favor. Next
meeting to scheduled for November 21 st, 12:00pm
4. Members Reports
• Marilyn reported on the youth voice: Wangari to inquire with the solicitor on COD ordinance.
Increase youth opportunities to join Commission disabilities
• City Hall renovations and considerations. The commission would like to learn of available plans
to make City hall more accessible post renovations.
• David Gannon reports City Hall Handicap Parking needs and barriers. Having one spot is not
enough. Suggestion to hold extra parking spots for Commission on Disabilities meeting evenings
might remedy the reduced accessibility.
• David reports state of handicap parking across City of Beverly and will provide his findings to
the board to raise awareness
• Paul Willenbrock suggested that there be a sub committee that can develop a list of potential
improvements that the COD can look at and present to Mayor Cahill for consideration.
• Developing a new ADA Transition Plan review Plan
