Discussion
1. Filling of HRC seats and review of process in appointing members and reflection on this process. We are seeking
greater diversity of membership to fill the need gap to round out of the membership. What is our process in ensuring
that there is diverse representation which reflects our city. Our committee is seeking more clarity in the process of
appointment. HRC members to this point have not had input on the decision making process to this point. We discussed
the fact that tasting a wide net to gain more involvement in our work is helpful and getting folks involved in community
and the concerns of the HRC.
• We need 11 formal members of the committee who are voting members
• Keeping the momentum of the group going as well as succession plans for exiting members

Wangari suggested that people from City Hall who already fill specific rolls could attend and contribute to HRC on a
rotating basis. For example: reaching out to other BPS employees to attend specific meetings to gain more perspective
and diverse backgrounds.
Paul introduced the information on the Massachusetts Human Rights Coalition 501 C3(MAHRC)This organization has a
wealth of free resouces including access to a Google Drive which holds sample does
2. Motion by Purvi to take this work into a new sub committee (four or fewer members in addition to others). Motion
passes.
3.. Review Mayor's proposal to change HRC ordinance which would add Wangari as a seated member of the committee.
Our additional recommendations may be proposed to the mayor's office for his consideration.
4. Review of Cultural Identity Recognition Programming by Wangarl. The vision for this work would be to expand the
role of HRC in outreach, making sure all facets of the community are aware of the upcoming programming and for a
representative of HRC to be in attendance of the events. This would develop a more collaborative approach to making a
greater impact with our programming. Beverly Creates is a newly formed organization which Wangari would like to add
as a potential HRC subcommittee.
