BOD 5-14-2024 Meeting Minutes Beverly Council on Aging (1) Beverly Council on Aging Advisory Board Minutes Date: May 14, 2024 Place: BCOA and Senior Center, Colon Street Members Present: Barrence Whitfield, Blair Smith, Rich Tabbut, Daniel Wuenschel, Cynthia Montalbano, Stephanie Tallo, Susan Feeney, Members Excused: Staff Present: Suzanne Kosch, Chris Gomez, Bruce Doig Staff Absent: Meeting Called to order: 2:30 p.m. Lunch was provided for committee members from Super Sub. Secretary Report: Motion to accept minutes from April meeting, accepted by Cynthia Montalban, Seconded by Susan Feeney. All in favor. Director's Report Building Concerns and Usage Chris provided an update on status of HVAC needs. The necessary compressor has been purchased. Parking lot is hopefully to be paved weekend 5/18 weather permitting. DOT grant for vehicles was approved for a 14-16 passenger van that should be delivered by June 2025. There was an inquiry about how the grant was prepared, and answer was that city's grant writer completed this. Lynda in transportation will be retiring on 7/10. Administration and Finances The State Formula grant was received. Increase per person from $14 to $15. Next years budget was presented to Mayor and Bryant, with no major changes from last year. Most significant increase was in salaries. Chris shared that there may be a significant donation anonymously coming down the pike, for the BCOA. Programs and Events Preliminary discussion of Senior Day in the Park. Brief discussion regarding Beverly Rotary Club involvement. Spanish class for beginners is a consistent request New name for low intensity fitness class is "Sit and Tone." There was a celebration for a Beverly COA member who turned 103. On 5/13 was the presentation regarding the Accessory Dwelling Units for Beverly residents 5/14 Students from Pingree School hosting a Jeopardy game night Bruce shared information regarding "Warrior Weekend" combined events for Memorial Day at Beverly High School grounds on 5/19. There will be remote parking at the Cummings Center. Event/activities from 10-2:00. This will be posted on Facebook. Meetings/Activities/Clients/Clients of Concern AA meetings continue to be held in the building, led by a BCOA member No new specific elders at risk identified Personnel Updates/New Business Lynda in transportation will be retiring on 7/10. Committee Reports: Grant Committee: Two grant applications were reviewed today, in meeting preceding board meeting. Both received preliminary approval pending additional information. Awards Committee—Next meeting of the members of the Awards Committee will be 6/25 at 2:00 pm. This includes Barrence, Stephanie, Susan and Cynthia.
