BOD 062723 Meeting Beverly Council on Aging Advisory Board Minutes

Director's Report
Building Concerns and Usage
Heating— 1 of the four furnaces was disconnected by the city's plumber because it doesn't work
and so the others could run. Looking into replacing the whole heating and cooling systems.
Cooling 1 of 4 units is not working. Cost to replace one unit is $26,000. Looking at options.
Parking lot needs to be repaved,
New alarm system was installed. Old system was malfunctioning frequently and was out of date.
Administration and Finances
YTD budget reviewed. Awaiting more electric bills. Had tune-ups done on vans.
Awaiting response to 3 of our grant applications this month.
Programs and Events
In August we shall begin our monthly spotlight of different countries/cultures with Africa. We
will exhibit the food, dance, and music of a different country/culture every month going forward.
We are continuing to increase our day trips and transportation access.
Diabetes self-management 6-week workshop will start Julyl2th at 2 p.m. They will continue
every Wednesday.
Chronic pain self-management 6-week workshop starts on July 201h at 1 p.m. and will continue
every Thursday.
Make-up for mature skin workshop will be held July I3th at 2 p.m.
Meetings/Activities/Clients/Clients of Concern
Manicurist will be at the Senior Center on July 1 lth and July 251h.
Ask a Nutritionist July 271h from 11 a.m. — 1p.m.
Monthly Wellness clinic with Joan Fitzpatrick. RN. BSN. July 1 lth 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Personnel Updates/New Business
Three interviews were conducted for the Administrative Assistant position. Waiting for the city
and BMEA members to come to an agreement for pay adjustments. We are waiting until July 1st
to make an offer for the Administrative Assistant position. Our new temporary driver Peter
started Friday, June 23rd. Our new temporary Outreach/Activities assistant will start this week as
well.
Motion to accept Director's Report Richard Tabbut, seconded Cynthia Montalbano 3:17 p.m.
Nominations for 2023-2024 BOD Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary
Blair Smith voted in for Chairperson. Barrence Whitfield as Vice-Chairperson. Secretary will be
voted in at next meeting.
Update for Senior Day in the Park
We have raised $4,500 so far. Barrence will sing National Anthem. Centerpieces will be
provided by BOD members. Event runs from 10 am to 2 pm. BHS ROTC members will
volunteer at event. The budget for the entire event is $10,000, 50% of budget is for food. Scottie
the DJ will provide entertainment.
Committee Reports
Grants Committee- No applications
Awards Committee
Reviewed nominations for Senior of the Year and chose winner. Richard Tabbut will get plaque
from Harrington's. Family member will read proclamation.
Unfinished Business
Two members of BOD have terms expiring this year. Discussed changing the time of day that
future BOD meetings will be held. Thanked Jessica Wistran for her many years of service on the
BOD,
New Business
Discussed the Bocci Team that holds matches at Livingston Park. The Ryal Side Civic
Association will provide Porta Potties through August.2023.
