Place: Beverly Recreation Department

Lauren Young, Lisa McFadden
Board members absent: Mark Casey
Others present: Joan Fairbank, Recreation Director, Tom Scully
Minutes of previous meeting were accepted as written.
BARN: Discussed the fact that any work done needs to go through the public procurement process. Would need to
advertise for an architect for feasibility study, etc. Lauren asked if the Commission was sure that it was within their
authority to proceed with this process? Tom felt that the Commission was authorized because the building is on park
property and also, because we are working with Mike Collins who wants to see the building restored.
Architect who toured the building gave his report. Very structurally strong, built very well. Interior is wonderfully
intact. Roof needs replacement. Discussed all the possible uses, office space, rooms for classes, receptions, meetings,
etc., as well as adding an elevator, additional staircases, and emergency exits. Feasibility study could cost $20-
$40,000. More if they want to more of the park, including the garden ($100,000). Discussed various sources of
funding including State Historic grants. Lynch Trustees would be willing to support a new roof once they are assured
that the building, including electrical, etc is in good shape. Last estimate mentioned was approx. $32,000. This
amount is about as high as the Trustees could go considering their other projects. New estimate should be gotten
immediately.
MOM’S SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT: Bruce reported that the event was very successful. Twelve teams played. Beverly
High won. $3000 raised to the Tech Fund. Concession raised about $3,000 for Bootstraps. Thanks to Kevin, Mark,
Joan for all their hard work.

priority list already established and city funding. Joan will edit letter and email everyone a copy.
