Others present: 3oan Fairbank, Recreation Director, Tom Scully, Mike Papamechail
Minutes of previous meeting were accepted as written.
Mr. Papamechail reported:
· Getting new bids for courts ( bid from Tdmount has changed)
· Work at Lynch continues. Plan to Hydro seed by end of the month, as well as, install irrigation (in front of shell).
Work at Dick & Juries about 50% complete.
Tom reported that he received from Mr. Powell some information on state grant money to repair historical sites.
Applicants have to be on state historical register. Grants are for 50%. Tom will send for the necessary paperwork to
get on the register.
3oan: .Sangster bench has been delivered. Asked Mike if it could be installed as soon as possible. Several others are
being ordered for installation before the summer.
· Discussed problems with people on skateboards, rollerblades and bikes in the Garden. Sign may be needed.
NEW BUSINESS
· Policy for Lynch regarding tents and canopies
Joan reported repeated requests have been received from groups that would like to put up tents for their group
outings to provide shade, etc. She was wondering if the present policy of "no tents" should be reviewed.
Pros and cons were discussed. Lauren Young was opposed to changing the policy due to wear and tear on the
grass, as well as other problems. Others expressed similar reservations to changing the policy. Present request was
denied. Decision to change policy for the future was tabled; the Policy Committee will discuss issue.
· Park Tour: dates were set for Sat, Nay 6th (8-11 am) and Sunday, May 21 (8:30-11 am) leaving from Lynch
OLD BUSINESS
· Joint meeting with Planning Board is Tu, May 16u~ at 7:30 pm at City Hall.
· Sailing program: 3oan contacted the Piers Park Sailing Program of Boston. He was interested in helping put our
program back together. One of their board members lives in Beverly. Joan was asked to arrange a meeting.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
· Dix Park: drainage work will not begin until after playground program is over in August. Alternative site in the
Farms for the park program was discussed. Joan does not recommend moving the entire 8-wk program to
another site.
· Brackenberry Beach: letter sent to Joan about Legal Affairs meeting (Apr 10) to decide on adding 2 parking
spaces on Hale St at end of Brackenberry Lane.
· Falconer Restoration: Donation from the Arts Council: $1,000. Other donations being sought.
· Programs: Camp openings are very limited. Evening class numbers higher than last winter.
