DIRECTOR'S REPORT
· Discussed situation with the Recreation Dept van. A new vehicle would run $23-25,000. It was suggested looking at a used
vehicle or leasing one.
· Lauren Young suggested that we contact Montserrat about a mural for the Dane Street Bathhouse. Building is presently
painted with anti graffiti paint and sealed.
· Joan recommended pay raises for camp directors and supervisors from the current rate of $9-9.25 to $10-12 per hour;
assistant director to $7-9 and special events to $8-10. New rates were approved.
· Joan recommended we hire a special ranger to cover the Rose Garden and handle the weddings. The park ranger has too
many other responsibilities to give the wedding groups the attention they need. It order to afford this new person Joan
recommended that the Garden rates be increased. Motion was made and seconded that Joan hire a person as proposed and
to increase the garden rates. Motion was carried with all in favor.
· Discussed the letter received from Mayor ScanIon and Councilor-at-Large Tim Flaherty regarding "Rights, Responsibility and
Respect" week. The letter urged the Commission to consider the establishment of codes of conduct for coaches, parents and
competitors and various training sessions for them. Discussed the possibility of offering the NYSCA coaches training clinics
again. When the clinics were offered in the past, the cost was split 50/50 between the Recreation Dept. and the League.
Discussed Bruce drafting a "code of conduct" for the next meeting. It was suggested it be modeled after the NYSCA code of
conduct.
· Discussed a letter from Eileen Lang regarding the High School battle of the bands. She would like to see if the winning band
could play at Lynch Park sometime this summer. It was suggested that the band play at a Thursday Special Event.
· Discussed a request to waive the parking fee for a Volleyball Tournament to be held at Lynch in May. Event is a fund raiser for
homecoming. Request was approved.
· Discussed a communication from Electric Insurance Co. to donate a scoreboard for Vittori Park. Joan was asked to get more
details, find out if there is power at the field, size of scoreboard, who will maintain it, etc. Issue tabled to the next meeting.
· Dave Gardner proposed compiling a comprehensive report on fields and open space. Asked for members input at next
meeting.
· Discussed Mayor's plan for ice rink on Henderson Road.
Meeting adjourned.
