Others present: Joan Fairbank, Recreation Director, Mari Matt, Michael Papamechail
Discussion / Parks:
Mr. Papamechail talked about repairs and improvements made recently by Pete and Mike. This 2
man crew are responsible for several buildings in the City including City Hall, 4 DPW facilities,
the Police Dept., the Veterans building, as well as, all the parks and playgrounds.
He asked for a couple of cranks for Pete & Hike so they can fix the tennis nets. He asked what
plans the City had for work to tennis courts. Joan explained repairs planned for the Cove cracks
this year, with more work to follow; bid for Obear Park being done by Peter Seamans. Mike
asked about purchasing basketball poles and hoops for Bessie Baker. Bardon Trimont doing
over courts at Bessie, Pleasant View, Vittori and Cove.
Mr. Papamechail reported on upcoming work and projects completed:
· July 10th: planning to work at Dane St. Beach. All along the left side of bathhouse ,along
the fence, will be all cleared out and groomed. His department has purchased 4 picnic tables
for that area.
· Would like to install water fountains at Dane and at Independence (same model as at
Lynch).
· Building at Innocenti has been removed. Light switch is on the pole. They can install a box
with a lock to enclose switch.
· Bartlett Gardens: play structures are done, court has been sealed and outlined, diamond all
set, irrigation in the works. Work should be completed in 3-4 wks.
· Cove Playground: intends to fence in entire park so no cars can drive on it
· Cross Lane: field has been fenced, stone parking lot installed
· Cooney Field: put in a new parking lot and did work on the field
· Innocenti Park: plan to redo field this fall
Discussed when the signs at Innocenti will be coming down. Joan will call Linda Zambouras.
Mr. Powell reported that the Lynch Trustees will fund a study for the restoration of the Tea
House in the Garden. They will look for someone with the proper expertise.
Discussion / Common:
Dan Murphy met with the Commission to discuss rules, regulations and policies for use of the
Common and the new gazebo. Discussion was held on appropriate use and types of events.
Concerns were raised about lack of parking and restrooms, as well as, traffic, trash, and
disturbance of the neighbors. It was mentioned that the Veteran's may have an interest in the
Common.

Other Business:
· Liz asked who approved the headstone type memorial that was installed at the new fountain.
It was agreed that sponsors should have been recognized by engraved leaves placed on the
memorial tree, Liz would like to see this memorial removed.
· 3ane announced that she is moving and needs to resign from the Commission.
Dawn Goodwin informed 3oan that Balch will qualify for Community Development funds.
Perhaps as much as $60,000. Dawn's proposal needs to be done in a week. She told 3oan
that they would not approve spending the entire amount on playground equipment. It was
suggested that at least one tennis court be part of the proposal, with the. remainder going to
playground equipment, benches, drinking fountain, etc.
· Joan reported that summer programs are in full swing with high numbers in most areas.
Dick and 3une's planning something special to celebrate their 10 year anniversary. Dick
spoke to 3oan about getting a roll down door for concession area. 3oan wanted to speak to
'13m Brennan.
