when Bessie would be done. DPW said it would depend on the weather and
suggested the field be kept out of play until games begin. DPW asked
for a Little League schedule asap. Extension to Innocenti Park fence
(middle section) wes also discussed. Bruce asked if netting could be
installed in that section. Mr. Churchill asked about the Brown
Playground (Vittori) equipment. DPW has looked at it and reported it
needs refurbishing. Mike suggested that a professional consultant be
brought in to check all equipment and advise on safety problems, etc.
Mr. Anastasi suggested getting a equipment company to give us a bid on
fixing equipment. Joan will look over the Brown equipment and talk to
Arthur Powell (Trustees) regarding their offer to purchase new
equipment.
Date for the 1997 Park Tour was discussed. Date for the 1997 Field
Summitt was set for Th, March 20.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
- received e request for use of Lynch Park for their annual Road Race in
June. In addition, they have asked to put up a tent in case of bad
weather. Motion was made by Don Anastasi to grant request without the
tent. Motion carried with all in favor.
-explained the need to move evening classes from the Senior Center to
new locations due to provisions in the grant.
-asked Mr. Scully to summarize a recent meeting they had with Marshall
Handly regarding field permits. Mr. Scully explained that Marshallstrongly
suggests we have problem with the way fields are being
assigned. People not in a league cannot get field space. It was
recommended that we find a way to provide these people with access to a
field. The other issue discussed was regarding who really controls
Harry Ball Field and whether or not the City has sufficient access in
the event of an emergency. Mr. Churchill said that DPW, Fire and Police
all have keys to Harry Ball. Third issue concerned the Harry Ball
neighbors and promises made to them regarding restricting the use of the
sound system. It was decided that a meeting with Mr. Handly should be
scheduled prior to the field summitt on March 20.
-Situation at Bartlett was discussed. Questions rose regarding why the
people who dug up that park cannot be held responsible for restoring it
as promised.
Discussed 97-98 budget Joan prepared. Motion was made and seconded to
accept budget as presented. Motion carried with all in favor.
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Gail Carmody

RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT
FEBRUARY 1997
Paul McCarthy of Centerville requested that the developer put
in a fence between his property on Cherry Rd and the new Maplewood
land that is supposed to be used as a tot lot. This lot is not
clearly defined and has a large water pit on the adjacent property.
OBEAR PARK Met with Tina again over new bid to be advertized.
Some things hinge on what may be able to be done in-house. I have
been researching other maps that may be available with Harbor
Management Authority and SESD. A postion of the ballfield to to
water is available by the latter.

Mari Matt is doing a great job organizing trips and coordinating
publicity for all programs.
CAMPS
We participated in the Camp Fair last weekend sponsored by Glen
Urquhart school. We had great response from the participating
families, both adults and youth, to our staff and their camps.
We have 26 camp sessions booked with deposits already. (Many
responded to the camp flyer that was included in the brochure.)
The camp information has never been completed this early, with
registration beginning in June. I feel that this summer all camps
will have waiting lists, not just Tiny Tykes and Adventure Camp!
Summer Job Applications are out to the schools and are due by April
1st.
I am still waiting for a report from Goric regarding playground
equipment repair and for a meeting with Michael McGuffie regarding
the wood fiber carpet surface for our equipment.
