1998-07-09BEVERLY PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
Minutes of meeting held July 9, 1998
Present: Bruce Doig, Dave Gardner, Liz Caputo, Joan Fairbank,
Michael Papamechial and Bob Iannucci from Landmark School.
Letter of complaint from a Brown Park neighbor was read and
discussed. Neighbor is having trouble with kids hitting baseballs
and golf balls into his yard and hitting his house. This is not
during any organized game or activity. He called the Police who
told him to call the Rec Dept. We do not staff a park there and
advised him that it was a police matter. The possibility of a net
was discussed but dismissed as not practical. It was noted that
the ballfield is posted for "12 and under".
Discussed new park equipment and surfacing that has been ordered
for Lynch, Dane and Colgate. Also discussed the need to relocate
the small tot structure at Lynch to an area with better drainage.
Joan was not sure the current structure would hold up to being
moved.
Mr. Gardner visited all courts and submitted a written report. }~c
reported that at most locations the fencing needed to be secured at
the bottom. Signs needed at all locations. Wide cracks at
Centerville. Bessie and Vittori basketball courts up next for
work, as well as sealcoating at McKay. Basketball court at
Bartlett will be taken care of by the EOCD grant.
Bob Iannucci from Landmark School presented a proposal for new
tennis courts at Balch. The school would contribute to the
construction of 4 courts in exchange for use of them in the spring
for their tennis program. The Commission asked for a more detailed
plan and also suggested that he speak to the Beverly Golf & Tennis
Club because they may be interested in paving some of their courts.
Mr. Morris from Colgate explained that he has gotten the stone, a
sign and all lumber for the Colgate project donated. He was
reminded that the Design Review Board must approve the sign.
Discussed equipment selected and placement.
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted
