MINUTES – BEVERLY LICENSE BOARD – JANUARY 8, 2004
Meeting called to order at 6:03 p.m.
Present: Members Dick Kelley and George Heller, Board Clerk Linda Giallongo
Absent: Member Ron Ranta, Police Lt. John Roccio
Chairman Kelley introduced the Board.
1. Transfer of license to Johnson Golf Management Inc. dba Beverly Golf and
Tennis Club. - Peter Fontaine present representing the Johnson Golf. He noted
that Par for the Course Catering, Peter Harrison, is no longer running the
restaurant. Mr. Johnson wants to transfer the license back to him and become
manager. He advised the Board that the restaurant was not in operation at the
present time. Board informed him that it is an annual license and should be
opened year round. Mr. Kelley advised that there is an obligation that the
restaurant be in operation full time. Mr. Fonatine explained that they would be
open and running the restaurant on a full-time basis in less than a month.
Discussion followed.
Green cards were presented and Clerk advised that a copy of the Legal Notice was
needed and that the affidavit needs to be notarized. It was noted that a CORI was
not necessary as it had already been done on Mr. Johnson in the past.
Mr. Kelley asked if there was anyone present to speak either in favor or in
opposition to the granting of this transfer.
Motion was made a seconded to grant the transfer of the license to Johnson Golf
Management with the stipulation that they would return in a month’s time and
inform the Board who the manager will be. Motion carried 2-0.
2. Requests for Sunday Package Store Openings
Board received 8 written applications plus 2 verbal applications as noted:

There was discussion concerning Package Stores in Beverly being allowed to be
open on Sundays.
Chairman Kelley noted that if the Board voted to approve Sunday opening, that
the store is obligated to be open every Sunday unless they request a six day
license. (This would allow the business to open on Sunday and be closed on
another day.) He also advised that any vote would be contingent upon the City
Council not voting to opt out.
Motion made and seconded to approve the applications of the 10 package stores
to be open on all Sundays. Motion carried 2-0.
3. One day licenses –
Board unable to act upon an application from the Glen Urqhuart School as
submitted. It was noted that by resolution of the License Board that alcohol
cannot be present in the same room with the gaming. Clerk instructed to advise
school of same.
4. Motion made and seconded to approve the minutes from the November and
December Board meetings. Motion carried 3-0.
5. Board instructed to invite Paul McDonald from Crackers to the next meeting to
give an update concerning his license and the business being closed.
Next meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 5, 2004.
