BEVERLY LICENSE BOARD – MAY 2, 2002
Meeting called to order at 6:35 p.m.
Member Kelley and Ranta present. Member Heller not present. Lt. Roccio
present.
Board introduced by Chairman Kelley.
1. Yank’s – Application to change the description of the licensed
premises to include an outside area in front of their establishment.
Mr. and Mrs. Bergman present. Mr. Bergman stated they would
construct a trellis around the area about 4 ½ feet high. Will not be so
tall as to obstruct vision. Will be taking 2 parking spots.
Clerk stated she had spoken with Building Inspector. She was told it
was all set. No problem with Zoning.
Mr. Kelley asked if notice was given to the neighbors. Mr. Callahan,
church and condo owners were notified. Hours of operation? Outside
to be closed earlier than the restaurant.
Any questions from any parties present? Donna Carlson. Yank’s
have been courteous and polite. Concerned about the noise level. All
neighbors were notified. Concerned. Could parameters be set for
closing time for the outside area? People work. It is a working
neighborhood. Go to sleep early.
Mr. Bergman – we are open to suggestions. Hope to have two
seatings at 6:00 and 8:00. Would time would they be completed?
Weekends maybe later. Weekdays perhaps keep it at 6:00 seating.

Mr. Kelley – We have certain powers. We can set time. Believe the
noises seem to be more or less closer to the restaurant. Not sure you
would be impacted by noise from the tables.
Mr. Ranta – Like to see you have economic benefit. Seems to make
sense to have a review in August. Keep communication open.
Review in August. Ask that you touch base with the neighbors across.
When are you prepared to open? As soon as possible.
Mr. Kelley – Can be conditions. Should be some way it is not inviting
for people to stop and sit. Condition that people are not there longer
than 10:00 p.m. and be sure enclosed area is not extended on the
sidewalk area. Subject to review in August.
Motion – To approve the change in description to allow outdoor
service to 10:00 p.m., not to impede the sidewalk, partition not to be
higher than 4 ½ feet and subject to review in August. Motion
seconded. Motion carried 2-0.
2. Sunoco Plus – Jesse Albrite, Sunoco A Plus, 131 Brimbal Avenue,
application for a Wine and Malt Package Goods License. There is an
existing convenience store. What % of the store will be dedication to
the package goods? Three Beer and Wine, 3 end caps, 12 cap display.
Mr. Kelley - #14 – Not as to MA? Has there been a problem in any
other state? Do not know. We operate in 18 states. We are fully
owned subsidiary of Sunoco. Store Manage will be Carrie DiAngelo.
CORI’s needed for all Massachusetts residents involved in license.
How much experience do you have working with alcohol? Restaurant
manager for four restaurants. Overseeing the operation. Generally
suggest strongly that managers and employees take a TIPS course for
distribution and selling of alcohol.
How many hours to you expect to be working? Required to be there

Any comments? No one present either in favor or against.
Motion to approve the license subject to CORIs. Motion seconded
and carried 2-0.
3. Motion to approve all one-day licenses. Carried 2-0.
4. Miscellaneous –
Next meeting scheduled for June 6, 2002 at 6:30 p.m.
Lt. Roccio suggested a notice re closing hours be sent out to all
establishments.
Lt. Roccio distributed Police Reports concerning Brother’s, Cabot
Street Liquors and Pisani’s Market to the Board. Clerk instructed to
invite the three in to the next meeting on June 6.
