2000-10-24City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Long Range Planning Committee Date: October 24, 2000 6:00 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Diane Costa, Edward Brindle, Lindsay Diehl, Katherine Fanning, Neil Olson, Kevin O’Reilly, Joanne Panunzio, Helga Senko, and John Young Board members absent: Others present: Thomas Scully, Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff Diane Costa presided. The Long Range Planning Committee met to review FY2000, 2001, and 2002 goals. Tom Scully distributed circulation statistics. FY2000 FY 2000 goals were reviewed. Diane Costa reported that the library has done a good job meeting the FY2000 goals. FY2001 FY2001 goals were reviewed. Trustees agreed on the following goals: 1. Continue and expand inter-library loan to all schools. 2. Continue school classroom visits from library staff. 3. Continue summer reading programs. 4. Continue book talks, poetry contest. 5. Continue doing informational meetings and brochures for teachers. Do e-mail outreach to teachers. 6. Provide training classes for community members. 7. Continue to provide community meeting space. 8. Request additional funds for book budget. 9. Identify collection areas needing acquisition or de-accessioning. 10. Identify high priority items for rebinding. 11. Request a staff development budget. 12. Fund raise for Beverly Farms Library project. 13. Establish an annual capital maintenance program. 14. Establish an annual maintenance plan for buildings and grounds. The following FY 2001 goals have already been accomplished and therefore deleted from the above list: 1. Get all schools to join NMRLS. 2. Establish Bookmobile service at Abraham Edwards School. The recommended high school summer reading program has been eliminated from the summer reading program. There was a discussion of the school department’s reading requirements and how it affects our budget and quality of service. FY2002 FY2002 goals were reviewed. Trustees agreed on the following goals: 1. Continue and expand inter-library loan to all schools. 2. Continue school classroom visits from library staff. 3. Continue summer reading programs. 4. Continue book talks, poetry contest. 5. Continue informational meetings and brochures for teachers. 6. Continue training classes for community members. 7. Continue to provide community meeting space. 8. Request additional funds for book budget. 9. Continue to identify collection areas needing acquisition or de-accessioning. 10. Continue to identify high priority items for rebinding. 11. Request a staff development budget. 12. Complete fund raising for Beverly Farms Library. The following FY2002 goals have already been accomplished and therefore deleted from the above list: 1. Get all schools to join NMRLS. 2. Establish Bookmobile service at Abraham Edwards School. Neal Olson made the motion, seconded by Lindsay Diehl, to: Forward to the Committee of the Whole for its approval the goals as stated for the fiscal years 2000, 2001, 2002. Motion passed. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
