Beverly, October 21, 1953
A special meeting of the Administration Committee, Mr. Rowe, Mrs. Conrad and Mr.
Birmingham, was held at the Library, 9 o'eloek, October 21, 1953. The purpose was to have the
Lightolier Representative explain in detail as to the already purchased fixtures. He explained that his
information was based on his experience of preparing other layouts and that he had been Lightolier
Representative since 1946. He stated that if the present Polystrene or plastic diffusers were replaced
by the Plexiglass diffuser it would be a cost of $20 more per fixture. It would cost per room for four
light fixtures $1075 against what we have on hand of $594 per room and would cost more to install.
As to the starter he explained that it would cost approximately $4 per fixture to have an instant starter
installed in the fixtures we have and 40 cents per fixture to remedy the blinking when the lights are
turned on. He claimed that these lights give 7500 watt hours as against 6000 hrs. with rapid or instant
starting. He explained that these fixtures we have are easily installed by one man and would give
economical service. If the diffuser turns yellow or discolors in any distinct fixture in five years, he is
writing a letter to the effect that he will have the diffusing element replaced at no cost. It was lei~ that
the final decision would be made at a Special Meeting of the whole Board to be held on October 29
at 7 o'clock.
The Committee also inspected the leak at the Farms and decided to contact Conti & Donahue
as to this matter. Although the 2 year guarantee is up Mr. Bergstrom of Conti is willing to investigate
and report.
A note was sent to the Telephone Co. asking for some consideration of a fence between the
Farms Telephone Office and the Library.
Collins Fence Co. will install a 90 t~ 4' fence at Central Library between Galvins house at a
cost of $168. It was decide to have it done.
A letter was sent to Mr. Kenney, Acting City Electrician, asking him to be present at the
special meeting of Oct. 29 at 7 o'dock so as to come to some decision as to the installation of lights.
