1962-03-15 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 03/15/1962 Place: Beverly Public L~rary Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Russell P. Brown, Saul J. Cagart, Frank P. Hyde, Bruce Lancaster, Frederick H. Pierce, and Thomas J. Tooracy Board members absent: Anne P. Bryant, and Carolyn F. StandIcy Others present: Recorder: Marion ~. Brown Thursday, 15 March 1962 4 P.M. The regular Meeting of the Trustees was held at the Library on the above date. Those in attendance were Mrs. Conrad, presiding, Mr. Cagart, Mr. Lancaster, Mr. Brown, Mr. Hyde, Mr. Pierce and Mr. Tooracy. The February records were approved as read, after which it was moved to proceed to the organization of the Board. By ballot, Mrs. Conrad was unanimously reelected Chairman and Mr. Cagan reelected Secretary. Committees will be appointed later. The finance sheets were studied. The 1962 budget has not, as yet been returned by the City. It was suggested that the next Finance sheets have a comparison with the 1961 figures as to the expenditures. After discussion of the building inspection by Inspector Weston it was decided to take no action until it was determined who was making the inspection, (It was later determined that they were made by the Fire Prevention Bureau of the Beverly Fire Department. These inspections are made quarterly in the interest of fire prevention and recommendations made to correct conditions found.) As Mr. Toomey came late there was no report for Administration. The report of the Circulation Committee and the Librarian were approved as read. As it was reported by the Librarian as well as the Reference Librarian that the chairs in the Reference Room were about ready to collapse, on Mr. Cagan's move it was VOTED to purchase 8 more chairs like those in the Young Adults Room that were just purchased, to be paid for from Trust Funds. The Trustees VOTED to register endorsement of bill H366, an act providing that State Aid for Free Public Libraries be expended by Library Trustees of cities and towns WITHOUT APPROPRIATION. The following was sent to William D. Fleming, 56 Henshaw St., Worcester and John J. Tooracy, 309 Broadway, Cambridge.- "The Trustees of the Beverly Public Library desire to be recorded as being strongly in favor of bill H366." Because of April 19th, the next meeting will be held April 26. VOTED to close, as usual Good Friday 12 - 6. Adjourned 5:15 Adjourned Marion A. Brown Clerk
