The regular meeting of the Trustees was held at the Library on the above date. In attendance
were Mrs. Conrad, Miss StandIey, Mr. Lancaster, Mr. Cagan and Mr. Toomey.
The records of the March 16th meeting were approved as read. As the reappointed Trustees
had just been sworn in and notification of organizing had not been sent to the Trustees, the
Organization meeting was held over until May 18.
The Finance sheets were studied and accepted. The reports of the Circulation Committee and
the Librarian were approved as read and placed on file.
For Administration, Mr. Toomey reported the poor condition of the screens and signs at the
Farms Branch. He will attend to them. Mrs. Conrad explained as to the very bad condition of the
grounds at the Farms and read some estimates from Louis Rossi Co., to take care of rototilling,
seeding and regrading the lawn, etc. It was VOTED to do the ground work for $500 from Trust
Funds. The taking of the Winter St. loam for the Farms, to be taken care of by the City was discussed.
Mr. Toomey will attend to obtaining an additional card cabinet to be used with the existing
cabinet. The money was provided for in the budget.
VOTED that two of the Staff attend the M.L.A. Conference to be held at Harwich, June 8-9.
A letter was read from Mrs. Taylor stating that if she is not to become a permanent Staff
member in June, she has had an oppommity to obtain work elsewhere. At the Librarian's discretion
it was moved and so voted that with regret she be released to go into other work.
An application for two Staff vacancies from Mrs. Dorothy Cook and Mrs. Martha Hutchins
was read and discussed. The Board would be very glad to accept both applications, however hold
over until the May meeting for permanent appointments. Mrs. Hutchins to replace Mrs. Taylor and
Mrs. Cook be made an additional Staff member, the money to be used from the Mayor's special
budget arrangement.
After the resignation of Mrs. Cook, a new member of the Trustees would be in order. As
Mrs. Conrad would be away Mr. Toomey, Miss StandIey, Mr. Cagan and Mr. Lancaster were
appointed to follow up.
Mr. Toomey suggested certain parking rules for the Winter St. parking lot. It was left to be
acted upon at the May meeting. Mr. Toomey offered to oversee the parking lot as it progresses.
There was some discussion as to the feasibility of moving YPR up into the Children's Room
and moving the children down. One reason for this move is because of advanced assignments of
Grades 8 and up. Much thought and study should be given to this before any move is made.
Miss Standley explained as to the Regional State Aid Meeting held in Andover recently and
suggested that this Library should set up special rules and regulations when State Aid is in operation.
