Thursday February 28, 1957
The meeting of the Trustees of the Beverly Public Library postponed from February 21, 1957
was held on this date at 7:30 p.m. with Mrs. Cook, Miss StandIcy, Mr. Cagan and Mr. Toomey in
attendance.
Mrs. Cook presided in the absence of Mrs. Conrad.
The records of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The report of the Finance Committee was read and accepted. The new Budget was discussed
at some length, and it was suggested that during this year, the approach of robbing one account to
pay the bills of another account be abandoned, and that when the monies of an account have been
fully expended, more money be requested from the City Government. It was also suggested that true
expenditure figures for each account be placed in the budget of 1958. The fact was pointed out that
several large bills fall due this year, namely: boiler insurance, fence at Beverly Farms, periodicals for
two years and traps.
For the Administration Committee it was reported that approximately one half of the new
traps have been installed, and that the rest will be put as soon as they arrive from Boston. A
noticeable difference in the temperature has already been realized from the changes made.
A report of the Circulation Committee was read and accepted. It was suggested that this
report be published once a month in the Beverly Evening Times so that the public may be made aware
of our circulation and book purchases. Mr. Tooracy reported that he had not yet contacted the
industrial organizations, but will try to do so in the near future.
The Librarian' s report was given by Miss Kline in the absence of Mrs. Brown.
The following motions were voted unanimously.
VOTED: to dose the Main Library and the Beverly Farms Branch from 9 to 1 on March 21 1957,
during the meeting of the North Shore Library Club. Notice to be placed in the Times.
Voted: That Mrs. Tate's salary be raised to that of Mrs. Fortunato, who she replaced, effective March
3, 1957.
Voted: Permission to the No. Shore Antiques Club to use the Library Hall on March 20, 1957.
Voted: To pay car insurance in the amount of $75 for Mrs. Palmer. Money to be taken from the Trust
Funds.
