The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Thursday Dec. 18 at 7:30.
There were present Mrs. Conrad presiding, Mr. Pierce, Mr. Toomey, Mr. Lancaster and Mr.
The records of the previous meeting were approved as read.
The Statement of the Finance Committee was presented giving expenditures and balances for
the year. This was approved. Upon Mr. Cagan's motion and so voted to rescind all previous salary
scales provided in the By-laws, in place thereof, adopt the following Classification of Salaries and step
rate provisions as listed below effective as of Jan. 1, 1959.

Voted: to send a letter to the Mayor, signed by the Chairman of the Board stating that the Head
Librarian should be put in Classification Job Group 16 instead of Group 15 because of the
requirement to obtain a qualified person the salary must be comparable to the libraries of like size.
Mrs. Conrad reported as to the plan to remodel the entrance at the Farms Branch, adding
shelves and card cabinets, the cost to come from the Moffitt legacy. Also reported was the double
faced shelves for the Children's Room to separate the room. Mrs. Conrad was authorized to continue
this plan.
Voted: that the Librarian answer a questionnaire from Mrs. George Wallace for the Mass. Library
Development Committee that the Trustees are against legislation for improved financial support of
Mass. Public Libraries.
Mr. Toomey brought the Board up to date as to the Winter St. parking. The plan prepared
by the Chamber of Commerce for the Board of Aldermen is on file.
