January 29, 1948
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on January 29, at 7:30 P.M., with
Mr. Delaney, Mrs. Conrad, and Messrs. Boyden, Birmingham, Foster, and Small in attendance.
The Secretary's report of the meeting of December 22 was read and approved, and all
action taken at that meeting was ratified by the Board.
The summary of the year's expenditures, both from City Appropriation and from Trust
Funds, was presented by the Finance Committee, as well as a statement that expenditures for the
month of January had been quite normal. Since no report had come from the City Government
about the 1948 budget, no detailed report was possible.
The Administration Committee reported that repairs had been made to a leaking radiator
at the Main Library and slight repairs to plumbing at the Farms Branch. Mr. Delaney also
reported that the hall at the Farms Branch had been used for the weekly meetings of the Boy
Scout Troop and that he had given permission for the use of the hall on Saturdays through the
month of February for the showing of motion pictures for children - the question of any charge for
the hall to be taken up by the Board if further request was made.
The Librarian's report, giving a summary of the year's activities, with figures of
registration, circulation, number of volumes, etc., was read and placed on file.
A letter from Mrs. Palmer was received, requesting the Trustees to pay the insurance
charge on her car, as head been done in former years. It was voted, unanimously that this be
taken care of through Trust Fund Income.
The Circulation Committee recommended the purchase of 88 new books - 39 being
juvenile - and the acceptance of 2 gifts. This recommendation was approved.
Voted: to adjourn
