Beverly, April 25, 1940
The regular Board meeting was held on Thursday, April 25th at 4 P.M., with Miss Loring,
Mrs. Motley and Mr. Delaney in attendance.
The records of the last meeting were read and approved, as was the statement of the
Finance Committee giving a summary of expenditures to date.
Since there was not a quorum present the following action was taken subject to
ratification at the next meeting of the Board.
Voted: that Miss Lane, Miss Preston and Miss Mitchell be allowed to take the Summer
Library Course at the University of New Hampshire, from July 8 - 19, the tuition of 27 each to be
paid from Trust funds, and Miss Lane and Miss Preston to give one week of their vacation toward
the time required.
Voted: that two members of the Staff be allowed to attend the two day Massachusetts
Library Association Conference at Noahfield in June.
Voted: to purchase the latest edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica at a cost of $138.00
- the edition now owned by the Library being eleven years old.
Voted: that since the next regular meeting would fall on May 30th, it be held instead on
Tuesday, May 28th.
The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 89 new titles and the
acceptance of 40 gifts.
