The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Thursday, March 25th, at 4
P.M. There were present, of the Board, Miss Loring, Messrs Small, Delaney, Rowe and Cronin.
The records of the meeting of February 25 were read and approved.
Mr. Small presented the report of the Finance Committee, giving the budget figures for
the year and explaining the cuts made by the Mayor. Voted to allocate the cuts as specified on
the sheets prepared by the Finance Committee.
Voted: - that Miss Crafts and Miss Preston be appointed to the regular staff as desk
assistants, at salaries of $975 and $800 respectively.
The Administration Committee reported that some much needed painting had been done at
the Farms Branch, and that it would be necessary later to do work at the Main Library - painting
walls which had been repaired last year.
Mr. Rowe reported, for the Committee on Branches, that Mr. Floyd, in charge of the
Deposit at Noah Beverly, would for library purposes set aside, a space approximately 9 1/2 ft.
square, which could be equipped with shelves for books and a table for magazines -. For which
additional space and service he would ask that his salary be increased from $250.00 to $400
annually.
Because of the cut in the budget, it was voted to accept this as a report of progress and to
consider it as part of the budget for next year.
The librarians report was read and placed on file.
Letters from Miss Elsie Woodbury and Miss Dorothy Prince, expressing their appreciation
of the opportunity given them to take the Course in Reference Books held at the Boston Public
Library were read and put on file.
The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 188 new titles and the
receipt of approximately 500 volumes for the Farms Branch, from the estate of the Rev. Nelson P.
Carey.
