Beverly, April 30, 1936
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library on Thursday, April 30,
at 4 p.m., with Miss Loring, and Messrs. Porter, Delaney, Small, Rowe, Cagan and Pond in
attendance.
The records of the meeting of March 26 were read and approved.
The Trustees then proceeded to the organization of the Board.
Miss Stanton was chosen to act as Secretary for another year, and Miss Loring elected, most
unanimously, as chairman.
Miss Loring, as chairman, then appointed the following Committees: -
Mr. Small presented the statement of the Finance Committee to date, and reported that the
amount to be received from 1/2 the dog tax would be $665.32. Voted: that this report be approved.
The Administration Committee presented a report, covering the conditions of the grounds at
both libraries, the need of cutting down trees at the Main Library, and the proposed installation of an
oil heater at the Farms Branch. Voted: to approve this report.
The report of the Librarian was then read and placed on file.
Voted: to add the balance of money left by Miss Sarah Warner Clark, to the legacy from Miss
Alice Whitmarsh, this to be used to purchase the Shelf List Cabinet previously voted upon by the
Trustees.
A petition was received from Miss Dora Edwards and other residents of Centerville, asking
that the Trustees establish a library room in the new auditorium at the Centerville School. This was
referred to the Committee on Branches and Administration with full power to act.
Mr. Edmund S. Cogswell, Deputy Commissioner of Insurance, for the State, explained very
fully and clearly, the provisions of House bill 1501, establishing retirement annuities for all City
employees not at present under a pension system. At the close of the discussion, the Trustees passed
a unanimous vote of thanks to Mr. Cogswell for his courtesy in attending the meeting.
