2002-08-19 BEVERLY HARBOR MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY
Facilities Sub Committee Meeting
August 19, 2002
Beverly Public Library
MEMBERS PRESENT: John Frates, Slyvan Menezes, and Charles Raymond
GUEST: Lou Bochynski
A barge desires to come to the City Pier to off-load water. Barge is 120' by 40'. City
would get $40,000.
Dolphin on east side of pier is poor. Four new steel guide piles would be $15,000 each.
Lou says don't dock barge parallel with pier.
There are six open slips at the recreational marina. We need to come up with new slip
rental policy: Have a minimum slip fee and for larger boats charge by the boat length.
The finger floats at Commercial Marina are 20' & 25'. The finger floats at the Glover
Wharf Marina are 30' & 40'. A safety standard is: the boat length can exceed float by
25%.
We need to keep the waiting lists current for vessels waiting to dock at the City Marinas.
We need a job description for the Marina Manager. There is one at City Hall.
We need an organizational chart for the marina management. We need a back up for Lou
when he goes on vacation or is on sick leave. Lou is a 35-hour per week employee; some
weeks he has worked 80 hours.
Lou has done plowing & shoveling of snow.
Lou has asked Mr. Bradley to send down a cleaning crew for bathrooms.
The City now takes care of the dumpster.
In January or February of 2002 HardHat divers cleaned and inspected all chains on floats
at the Commercial Marina, Ferryway, and Glover Wharf marinas. They replaced chains
and hardware where necessary.
John Frates would like Lou to be an administrator.
