Public Meeting Minutes

Kevin O'Reilly presided. Allison Babin stated that the meeting was being recorded.
Joanne Panunzio made the motion, seconded by Cathryn Keefe O'Hare, to accept the minutes of
the regular meeting of October 22, 2019. Motion passed.
Public Presentation
None.
Committee Reports
Personnel: Joanne Panunzio reports that the Personnel Subcommittee met on Monday, November
18. A search committee is being formed that will include Bruce Doig, a library staff member,
and a Friends board member. The job will be posted on the city's web site, at City Hall, and on
the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) website on December 2.
Administration: No report.
Finance: No report.
Long Range Planning: No report.
Report of the Library Director
1) Fiscal Year 2020 Budget is on track. To meet a school budget cost, the City plans to remove
$2,000 from the library's repair line.
2) Building Issues: Anna Langstaff discussed the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning
(HVAC) and capstone with Mike Collins. Mike Collins said he is waiting for the report from
Griffith & Vary, and that the capstone will be completed before the weather gets very cold.
Mayor Cahill stated that the City is holding money aside from free cash for HVAC in beginning
of new calendar year. Fran Sordillo has assisted with training custodial staff.
3) Personnel: Joseph Bonaiuto has been hired as the new Junior Building Custodian and started
on November 18. All employees were required to take Workplace Discrimination and
Harassment Awareness training.
4) Community Engagement: The 2021 Action Plan has been received and approved by the
MBLC. Colleen Michaels confirmed that she would like to serve another term as Trustee.
Bookmobile Librarian Katie Marsh and Anna Langstaff will attend the Holiday Parade on
Sunday, December 2. Donations have been made to the Friends of the Library in memory of
Beverly resident Marguerite Doherty. The Flynn Family Foundation made a $10,000 donation to
the Friends of the Library to improve the Children's Room. Anna Langstaff met with Mayor
Cahill to discuss the elimination of fines.
5) Programs: Allison Babin shared program highlights: Friends' Fall Book Sale running through
Sunday, November 24; Books & Brunch will be held on Sunday, November 24- registration is
already full; Holiday Henna and Craft for teens on Monday, December 9; Baby Fair will be held
on January 11; Winter Book Crafts will be held on Thursday, December 5; All -Ages Wreath
Decorating on Saturday, December 7; Nutcracker Tea at the Farms branch on Sunday, December
8.

The next meeting of the board will be Tuesday, December 17 at 6:OOPM at the Beverly Depot
Restaurant.
